MEETING MINUTES

 

I.          COMMITTEE REPORTS

            A.        WELLNESS CONFERENCE (Dawn Palsa, Eva Cirincione, Katie Kugelman)

·        Introduction to Diagnosis and Treatment of Dissociative Disorders: Keynote Speaker: Peter M. Barach, Ph.D. on Sat. 11-13-04, 8:30am – 1pm (includes breakfast).

·        The committee members brought everyone up to date about the conference and announced the “Call for Presentations” for students to present on topics related to trauma in breakout sessions.  Deadline 10-15-04.  Email to jsteidl07@jcu.edu.

·        Donations needed from area businesses.  Students can ask businesses to donate money for the conference.  Need donors for silent auction.

·        Students can post flyers at businesses and mental health agencies to advertise for the conference.

·        Pre-registration fee for students is $35 and can be mailed to Continuing Education.

B.                 AWARDS (Molly Barnard)

·        Committee needs new members!  Not a big commitment, committee is finished by mid-November. 

·        Responsible for submitting letters, nominating people for various awards, and  getting recommendation letters.

C.                 NEWSLETTER (Matt Orlousky)

·        Now online!  Has a new webpage with newsletter online, meeting minutes, chapter news, etc.

·        Reps needed from Community Counseling and School Counseling to gather info (important dates and news for each program).

D.                SOCIAL EVENTS AND FUNDRAISING (Bridgett Kilbane, Morgan Sprosty)

·        Discussed “Welcome Back Party” and decided to have it after class on a Thursday.

·        Walk for Beta Chi at the zoo Sat. 10-9-04.

·        Food Drive set for 11-8-04.  Need to figure out where to store collected food and narrow down donation type (canned goods, paper goods, etc.)

·        Ongoing cell phone drive to raise money for Beta Chi.

·        Bake sale set for late Dec., early Jan.

·        Discussed possibility of a “Bingo Night” to raise money for Beta Chi.

E.                 MEMBERSHIP (Julie Minarczik)

·        Need to get more members.

·        Committee members can speak in classes and pass out flyers to get more students to join.

F.                  ALUMNI (Alli Metz)

·        Alumni corner in newsletter

G.                INDUCTION (Susan Hayes)

·        Not active committee until spring semester.

·        Need more members.

 

II.         OTHER EVENTS

A.                 DOCTORAL PANEL

·        Panel with doctoral students from Kent State, Cleveland State, and University of Akron (Ph.D. in Counseling Education and Counseling Psychology).

·        Oct. 18 at 5:00 p.m. in Room AD232.

 

B.                 PCLE/NCE PREPARATION

·        PCE test has been changed to the NBCC exam. 

·        Study guide available on Community Counseling board or on website.

·        Exam given once a month.

·        A preparation session was discussed to prepare students for the NBCC exam.  A 2 hour review session with faculty and/or alumni who have taken the exam was discussed.

·        Tentative date for 1/21/05 or 1/28/05 on a Saturday.

·        Website now up and running!

·        Chapter meeting minutes, online newsletters, award applications, etc. will now be available online on our website.

D.                OTHER

·        The idea of having a private practice panel with LPCCs in private practice sharing tips and information was presented and members expressed interest.

·        More information on this committee will be discussed in Spring Semester.
