\par 1. Saturday, Feb. 1: See live webcast (1st ever at JCU) from 'new' DeCarlo \par Center
\par =================================================
\par
\par It's next Saturday, February 1, around 3:45 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time), 2:45 \par (Central), 1:45 (Mountain) or 12:45 (Pacific). There's no football on TV \par and it's too early to rent a movie. What to do? Visit the JCU web site (www.jcu.edu) \par and click on the prominent link you'll find there that will take you to a live \par webcast at the newly renovated DeCarlo Varsity Center. See the brilliant lighting, \par chair-backed arena seating and gleaming playing surface that have transformed \par the facility. "Attend" the brief ceremony officially naming the center in honor \par of Tony DeCarlo as he looks back on a 37-year career at Carroll during which \par he founded the university's nationally recognized wrestling program, achieved \par 12 straight winning seasons as head football coach, and presided over a remarkable \par expansion of the Blue Streaks athletic program as athletic director. The ceremony \par will take place during halftime of the men's basketball game against defending \par NCAA Division III national champion Otterbein, a game that starts at 3 p.m. \par (EST).

\par 2. JCU's Russert to help protect First Amendment

\par =================================================
\par
\par John Carroll continues to co-sponsor TV coverage of the Cleveland City Club Friday \par forum, the longest continually presented forum for free speech in the nation. \par A more recent venue, albeit prestigious in its own right, is offered by the National \par Press Club, in Washington DC, where Tim Russert '71, host of Meet the Press, will \par offer himself to his peers at a "Reverse Press Conference" at noon on Tuesday \par (Feb. 18). Proceeds from the event will benefit the legal defense fund of the \par Society of Professional Journalists and help SPJ protect the First Amendment. \par Beltway-area alums interested in more info can e-mail washdcpro@spj.org \par for more info.

\par 3. Events: 'ALUMS' service project, 'Winter Warm-Up,' Blue-Gold raffle, Reunion planning
\par =================================================
\par
\par Elsewhere, alumni and alumnae will be volunteering at the Ursuline Sisters' St. Angela Health Care Center in Pepper Pike as part of "ALUMS" (Alumni Living the University's Mission to Serve); gathering in Chicago for the never-more-aptly-named \par "Winter Warm-Up" at Justin's on Friday (Feb. 21); helping to support the Blue \par Streaks' athletic program at the Blue-Gold Club's Third Annual Reverse Raffle \par on Saturday (Mar. 29) at Casa Di Borally in Richmond Heights; and planning their \par classes' (3's and 8's) June 12-15, 2003 Reunion at meetings in Rodman Hall -- \par or via conference call from anywhere else.
