1. Reunion 2003 is HERE
=================================================
Don't
look now but Reunion 2003 is less than ONE WEEK AWAY! If your graduation year
ends in 3 or 8, there's still time to join your classmates for all or part of
the weekend's festivities, including tours of the nearly completed Dolan Center
for Science & Technology. Click on Reunion
Headquarters and do everything online -- review the possibilities and then
follow the links to "Rosalie's Reunion Reservations."
If there's no way you can make it in person, you can still be here in spirit
-- and support -- by contributing to your class gift and help JCU meet The Kresge
Challenge. You can do that online, too, by clicking here.
Regardless of class, all alumnae and alumni are invited to the Big Tent after
dinner on Friday and Saturday nights (Jun 13 &14) for music, dancing --
and reuniting.
=================================================
2. Next: Golf Outing Fore Women (Men, too)
=================================================
Everyone is also invited to the Golf Outing Fore Women the day after Reunion
(Jun 16) at Acacia Country Club in Beachwood (OH). For details check Events
or email Lorri Slesh.

The annual awards dinner that preceded Commencement in May honored the Alumni
Medalists and other alumnae and alumni award winners. But everyone can share
in the pride they embody. For an inspiring 'sound byte' (3 minutes) on Martha
Walther '76, George Wasmer '58, Bill Sweeney '48 and Chuck Heaton '38, click

Better yet, get the complete report on these Alumni Medalists as well as Service
Award winners Charlie Beringer '75, Nicole St. Marie '94 and Larry Kennard '68,
Silver Quill columnist Nancy Agacinski '79, and Senior award winners Katie Gannon,
Ann Ortega, Jennifer Gardner, Nick Detore and Melissa Kocurko (all '03) at Alumni

4. JCU student organizes faculty panel on 'The Wende'
=================================================
With the tragedies and other epochal events that have marked world history of
late, it's easy to forget "the last big thing" -- the fall of the Berlin Wall
and reunification of Germany. Just before the end of the Spring Semester, four
JCU professors joined in a panel that looked at "The Wende" from four perspectives:
History (Matthew Berg), Political Science (Andreas Sobisch), Philosophy (James
Swindal) and Modern Languages (K. Julia Karolle). The event demonstrated not
only the range of expertise found on the JCU faculty, but also the accessibility
of that expertise to students: The mini-symposium was the brainchild of Political
Sciences major (and German Club President) Joseph Ptak, who facilitated the
event. For audio streaming of each succinct presentation (10 minutes or less),
visit News and Events.

5. Dunklin, Chaney and Grzybowski take 'final lap'
=================================================
Although they finished out of the finals competition, seniors Antoine Dunklin
(400-meter dash), Charles Chaney (javelin) and Beth Grzybowski (high jump) represented
JCU at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, May 22-24,
at St. Lawrence University to close out stellar careers for the Blue Streaks
in that sport. Dunklin, with one semester of eligibility remaining, will return
in the fall as wide receiver on the football team. For highlights of the three
stars' track careers -- and other Blue Streaks headlines, click on -- Blue Streaks

6. Quotable ... notable

"For a student to graduate from a university today and not have a working knowledge of the reality that is Latin America is equivalent to that student graduating from the university not having a working knowledge of a computer." The speaker was Father Jim Ronan introducing longtime colleagues Sonya Rendon and Patricia McTeague. The two women had just received honorary degrees from JCU for their work in founding the New World School (Nuevo Mundo) in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Through a series of emersion experiences there (two are scheduled this summer), begun by Student Life Vice President Pat Rombalski, a growing number of Carroll students, professors and staff members have deepened their knowledge of Latin America.
