Historical note on the proposal of changes to the health plans, as recommended by Mercer
In May, 2003, the Faculty voted on the changes to the health plans, as recommended by Mercer. Although a majority of those voting voted for the proposed changes (For: 118, Against: 26), the issue required approval of a majority of the full Faculty, as it was ruled a Faculty Handbook issue. (In May, 2003, a minimum of 129 affirmative votes would have been required for the issue to pass.)
In September, 2003, the same issue (with no changes) was put to a vote of the Faculty and passed with a majority of the Faculty casting an affirmative vote (For: 143, Against: 28, Abstaining: 10).
