[News Briefs] Graduate Student Holiday Christmas Party: The Graduate Student Association invites all graduate students and their faculty to join this year's annual Student Holiday Party on Monday evening, December 5 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. in the Dolan Center Atrium and Reading Room. Join us for fun, food, and friendship as we kickoff the holiday season. Get in the Holiday Spirit: All graduate students are invited to join the University as it celebrates the winter season. There are a number events taking place on campus from Monday, November 28 through Saturday, December 10. The highlight of these days is Christmas Carroll Eve: Choral Concert at 7:30 P.M., Band Concert at 9:00 P.M., Christmas Caroling and Tree Lighting with the Fr. Niehoff, S.J., Christmas Carroll Eve Mass at 11:00 P.M at Gesu parish, and Midnight Feast in the Schott Dining Hall. The deadline to apply for Spring 2006 graduation was November 21. Late applications will be accepted for approximately two weeks after this deadline. The Graduate School Answers Katrina Relief Effort After Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coasts of Louisiana and Mississippi, The Graduate School decided to help. We contacted the principal of Sacred Heart Elementary School in D’Iberville, Mississippi. At that time she was working out of her car trying to find a new place to continue the school year. During the hurricane, the school was under eight feet of Bayou and sewer water, which came into the building in a whirlpool effect and destroyed everything in its path, including desks, computers, furniture, and all the children’s textbooks. Due to the contents in the Bayou and sewer water, the school was rendered unusable. (Check out pictures of the school at the address below). Families close to the devastated area lost their homes and businesses and many are now living together in one confined home without transportation. On October 3, Sacred Heart relocated to a nearby church in the Sunday school classroom and are trying to continue the |
