Qualifications |
Full-time, matriculated, degree-seeking graduate student. Leading candidates will demonstrate a sincere interest in working with student activities in the field of student affairs. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and the ability to relate effectively with all members of the campus community are necessary. The successful candidate must begin work on the Monday before classes begin in the fall and continues through the Friday before Commencement. Hours worked before classes begin and after the last day of classes will be deducted during office hours during the semesters and will need to be pre-approved by the Assistant Director of Student Activities. A minimum of twenty hours of work is expected each week. Office hours must be approved by the Assistant Director of Student Activities and posted outside of the office. |

Position Title: Graduate Assistant to the Assistant Director of Student Activities (Greek Life)
Reports to: Assistant Director of Student Activities

Description:
The main responsibilities of the graduate assistant are to assist in managing and administering of programs and services under the auspices of the office of student activities in order to provide a vibrant, engaging, and active campus life. The graduate assistant will work primarily with the assistant director of student activities in advising students in Fraternity & Sorority Life. The graduate student will help to provide advising to students and quality programming, including planning and implementation of Late Night Programming as well as leadership development opportunities. Additionally, the graduate assistant will coordinate services such as the all university fleet (van) trainings, the Kulas grant, and Senior Week activities.
Primary Responsibilities can include:
Fraternity & Sorority Life
- Serve as an advisor for Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council. This includes: recruitment, Greek Week, and programming initiatives (in the areas of scholarship, leadership, risk management, and wellness issues).
- Advise students with the planning and implementation Greek Week.
- Coordinate regular president’s meetings for the Greek organizations.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of Order of Omega and the Greek Scholarship Recognition Program.
- Create and maintain (weekly) the Fraternity & Sorority Life website.
- Create and distribute the monthly Greek Columns newsletter.
University Fleet Administration
- Assist the assistant director in the evaluation and revision of the University Fleet Policy.
- Coordinate the on-line vehicle training program for students and update as needed.
- Maintain accurate and current records of approved student drivers.
- Maintain accurate and current records regarding vehicle reservations.
- In partnership with the secretary, supervise work-study students for cleaning and general maintenance of university vehicles. The graduate assistant will also notify the facilities office when maintenance and repairs are needed regarding the vans.
- Report any vehicle misuse to the assistant director.
Senior Week
- Advise, plan, coordinate and evaluate all aspects of Senior Celebration and Senior Week.
Kulas Grant
- Coordinate cultural arts programming through the administration of the Kulas Foundation Student Ticket Grant.
- Make reservations and arrange all transportation for students to attend cultural events downtown and in surrounding area.
- Submit grant application to the Kulas Foundation annually in April.
- Maintain a Kulas grant website for our office.
Late Night Programming
- Assist with planning and implementation of Late Night Programming initiatives as requested by the director and/or the Late Night at Carroll planning team.
Student Activities Staff
- Attend weekly staff meetings as well as one-on-one meetings with the director.
- Attend large campus-wide events sponsored by the OSA, as needed, such as: Student Involvement Fair, Homecoming, Christmas Carroll Evening, Winter Formal, Spring Concert, Relay For Life, and Late Night at Carroll events.
- Maintain notes, electronic files and folders, and instructions for the various areas of responsibility/tasks.
- Work on any other initiatives as assigned by the director of student activities
