Parent Involvement

The nature of family involvement has changed through the years and therefore the need for authentic involvement is a must in order to achieve great schools.  According to Allington and Cunningham (2002) in Schools that Work, “No school can be truly effective without parent support and involvement.  As society changes, schools must also change and so too the relationship between families and schools.”  IER has promoted the following authentic parent involvement activities to help close the achievement gap in the districts that we serve:

  • Author’s Teas to celebrate students’ completion of an authoring cycle.
  • Parent Literacy Groups that promote the enjoyment of reading and writing for parents while at the same time giving parents the opportunity to model this at home.
  • Whole-school professional development around Authentic Family Involvement.
  • Study groups with teachers around parent involvement.
 • Great Schools PDF
 • Introduction to the Great Schools Design
 • Guiding Principles and Beliefs
 • Research Base
 • GSF Framework (pdf)
 • Agreements and Commitments
 • Implementation and Evaluation
 • Sample Partnership Plan (pdf)
