Sacred Heart Elementary School Fundraising Update: We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to our fundraising campaign for Katrina-stricken Sacred Heart Elementary School in D’Iberville, Mississippi. Funds will be used by the school to replace math textbooks, all of which were lost in the storm. Currently we have raised approximately $3,000 for the school and are continuing our goal of $5,700. To see pictures of the school, order JCU/Sacred Heart cookbooks, or keep updated on our campaign, view our website.

Football Tailgating Event: The Graduate School will be hosting graduate student tailgating before the football game on September 16, 2006. We will tailgate together in the quad and then walk over to the game. Graduate student admission is free, while additional
family member tickets are $6 and children under 4 are free. For more information please e-mail Jessica Mehnert at jmehnert08@jcu.edu.

Dean's Corner:

As we come to the end of this academic year I am moved by a feeling of gratitude. Gratitude for our students. Gratitude for our faculty. And gratitude for our staff that works so hard to make The Graduate School a responsive and supportive place for our students and faculty. The students keep us energized and responsive to new ideas. Our office is lucky to be able to work with both undergraduate and graduate students. They all give us hope for the future. The faculty provides a quality education to our students. This involves many small but important things that students do not see. Many faculty give freely of their time and talents to ensure that students have an excellent experience. The staff, most especially in The Graduate School office, has been the glue that holds us all together. Multi-tasking is a way of life for our staff! So as we end the year, please take time to consider what you are grateful for over this past year and take time to let that person(s) know, be it a fellow student, a teacher or a staff member. Best wishes for a peaceful and restful summer.

Thoughts on Gratitude by Albert Schweitzer:

At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.
To educate yourself for the feeling of gratitude means to take nothing for granted, but to always seek out and value the kind that will stand behind
the action. Nothing that is done for you is a matter of course. Everything originates in a will for the good, which is directed at you. Train yourself never to put off the word or action for the expression of gratitude.
