This year's "Celebration" will take place March 10-13, 2008.
Applications for the paper/panel and poster sessions are now available online. Accepted applicants are expected to be present during the poster session. Poster stands will be on display in the Dolan Atrium and in the Art Exhibit room in Dolan from March 11-13. Dean's Corner:

As the Interim Dean of the Graduate School, I am happy to be returning to a position that I originally held as Dean of the Graduate School from l986 to l999.  In many respects it feels like coming back home.  The Graduate School has moved its location, grown in numbers of staff and looks different, but its focus on serving the Graduate Students and providing a quality program of Graduate Studies remains the same as it has been from its inception.  The Graduate School Dean also oversees the Office of Sponsored Research and is responsible for faculty development, research and grants.

Currently, the Graduate School is in a period of transition.  We are taking this year to study the Academic Division Structure and how best to restructure graduate education so that it continues to grow and to serve students and the University in the best possible ways.  Also being studied is how best to organize the research and faculty development functions in the University.  Whatever the results of this reorganization will be, the University’s strong commitment to graduate studies, programs and students will not change.  I will keep you updated on what is happening in future Newsletters.

The semester is off to a good start as we head into planning for next semester.  Registration starts on November 5th and our office is here to help you with any questions.  Vivienne Porter is very busy working on recruitment and has been out visiting with prospective graduate students informing them about the excellent programs we have here at John Carroll.

I welcome your input.  You have a unique perspective on Graduate Studies and I would appreciate your sharing with us any suggestions, comments, questions and program ideas that may occur to you based on your own experience here and otherwise.  Please feel free to contact me, Dr. Peck or our office with your ideas about how we can do what we do, better.  You are our best ambassadors so, please tell your friends about Graduate Education at John Carroll.

Sally H. Wertheim, Interim Dean, The Graduate School
