Dean's
Corner:
As the semester draws to a close, the Graduate School is in the process of transition. John Carroll established a graduate studies program in 1940. The Graduate School as it currently exists will officially close on June 1, 2008. What that means is that there will be a reorganization of all Graduate Programs. As of June 1, graduate programs and graduate students will be handled in their departments who will then report to the respective Deans of the Boler School of Business and The College of Arts and Sciences. In practice, the transition should be seamless for students. Please be assured that the University has reaffirmed its commitment to Graduate programs and students. In fact it is hoped that more resources will be allocated to Graduate Studies as the reorganization is implemented
The transition to the Boler School occurred as of January, 2008. The College of Arts and Sciences is searching internally for an Associate Dean to oversee all Graduate Studies programs. All the other staff whom you know and work with will be carrying out their same responsibilities.
I want to take this opportunity to thank the Graduate School staff who is the foundation of all we do and makes everything happen for students and faculty. They do their jobs every day in a most effective and efficient manner and I am most grateful to them. They will continue to be there for all of you as they have been. I also want to thank Dr. Peck for his exemplary service to the Graduate School as Associate Dean and to wish him well as he begins the next phase of his career.
Please feel free to email or call me or any of our staff with any questions or comments. It has been my pleasure to serve as the Interim this past year and to assist with this transition. Best wishes as you continue with your Graduate Studies.
Sally H. Wertheim, PhD, Interim Dean |
