ORDER OF OMEGA

Image of Order of Omega LogoOrder of Omega is a leadership honorary society whose purpose is to recognize those students who have attained a high standard of leadership in inter-Greek activities and to encourage them to continue with this and inspire others.

The official colors are ivory and gold and its emblem is the Greek letter designating Omega. Membership is confined to members of Greek-letter social organizations.

Order of Omega came to John Carroll in the fall semester of 2006. After a year of development support from the Greek community, the Upsilon Rho Chapter was founded. The chatering class was inducted in the fall 2007 semester, which consisted of 24 of the top Greek students on campus. Today, membership is at 30 undergraduate students and 5 honorary members.

ELIGIBILITY

Image of Order of Omega OfficersIt is a great honor to be inducted into Order of Omega. The national constitution limits the number of inductees to each chapter in a given year. No more than 3% of the Greek community or 15 members (whichever is greater) may be admitted. Each member is carefully selected based on his/her character, scholarship, leadership, as well as service to the campus and Greek community.

Some minimum requirements include:

  • Minimum of 45 credits received.
  • Rank academically above a 3.0.
  • Be in good standing with the initiate's fraternal organization.

Applications are made available each semester. For more information, please contact the President of Order of Omega, Amy Marchlen, at amarchlen10@jcu.edu.

ACTIVITIES

Image of Order of Omega Induction CeremonyOrder of Omega holds regular meeting for its members, and in addition hosts a semi-annual scholarship banquet to recognize excellence in academics for both chapters and individuals in the Greek Community.

In fall 2008, Order of Omega held its first All-Greek Service Day. More than 225 members of the Greek Life community gave of their time at eight locations around the Cleveland area, including the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, Hospice at the Western Reserve, Cleveland Boys & Girls Club, Cleveland AIDS Walk, and Shaker Annual Fall Family Funfest. In total, our Greek members contributed 540 hours of service!
