RECRUITMENT
WHAT IS SORORITY/FRATERNITY RECRUITMENT?
Sorority/Fraternity
Recruitment is an organized process through which prospective members
visit the sorority/fraternity chapters and get acquainted with all
aspects of fraternity and sorority life through informal conversations
and activities. In the first few weeks of Fall Semester, you will
have the opportunity to visit each sorority/fraternity one time
at the start of recruitment. Then, several rounds of other recruitment
events will allow you to learn about the different activities and
programs of each chapter. After this formal week of recruitment
ends, much of the year is devoted to a more informal style of recruitment,
where individual fraternities and sororities host informal events
that they invite potential new members to.
Each fraternity/sorority has something unique to
offer you, just as you have something equally unique to offer
them. Sororities/fraternities are looking for members from all
academic classes and majors. Through a mutual selection process,
you will select your fraternity or sorority and the fraternities/sororities
will select their new members. Membership in a sorority/fraternity
will add a new dimension of leadership, friendship, academic excellence,
and fun to your college career.
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
You must be an undergraduate student in the institution
to be eligible to participate in membership recruitment. In addition,
each chapter requires a certain GPA minimum for membership.
FINANCIAL INFORMATION
There
are many things to consider when it comes to the decision of joining
a fraternity or sorority. Among these is the financial obligation
of membership. All members contribute to the funding of chapter
activities and national fraternity and sorority initiatives through
the payment of different types of fees or dues. Any prospective
member should ask specific questions of each chapter regarding
its fees, but some general information follows. Specific costs
for each sorority and fraternity will be available to you during
recruitment.
One-time fees: Each member will
pay one-time fees to the inter/national organization as a new
member and upon initiation. The initiation fee may include the
chapter badge and a lifetime subscription to the inter/national
fraternity or sorority magazine.
Chapter dues: Members will pay
dues either on a monthly or semester basis. These funds subsidize
chapter activities.
