SORORITIES
Panhellenic Council
OVERVIEW
The
Panhellenic Council is the representative governing body of the
five National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities at JCU;
it consists of five executive officers from various chapters and
one voting delegate from each chapter. The Panhellenic Council
meets weekly to discuss current issues and upcoming events. The
council is also responsible for local Panhellenic operation in
accordance with the NPC policies and procedures.
The NPC is a conference of women's private social fraternities and
sororities founded in 1902, which includes the 26 member national
and international women's fraternity and sorority delegates. Among
other things, the Panhellenic Executive Board operates Recruitment
Week and directs the Recruitment Counselors (Pi Chis). Please speak
to an Executive Officer or Recruitment Counselor about any comments,
questions, or concerns regarding Recruitment.

Chi
Omega is the largest woman's fraternal organization in the world
with 240,000 initiates. Since its founding in 1895, the number
of collegiate chapters has grown to over 170. Throughout Chi Omega's
long and proud history, six purposes have guided the direction
of every chapter and brought its members opportunities for personal
growth and development. Those purposes are Friendship, High Standards
of Personnel, Sincere Learning and Creditable Scholarship, Participation
in Campus Activities, Career Development, and Community Service.
John Carroll's Chapter, Upsilon Mu, is proud to be a part of a
band of women that started many years ago. As a chapter we continue
their legacy in many ways. Chapter members are involved in nearly
every varsity sport, hold numerous leadership positions on
campus, and contribute to many clubs and organizations. We
enjoy serving the community as well, sponsoring many "Make-A-Wish"
fundraising events including our annual "Battle of the Sexes"
competition. The Upsilon Mu Chi Omegas never forget to have fun,
either, having many social events throughout the year and concluding
with formal in the spring. But above all, our sisterhood is what
truly makes us who we are.

Joining
a sorority is one of the best ways to not only get involved around
campus, but to meet so many great people. Founded in 1874, the
word sorority was coined for Gamma Phi Beta, making it the oldest
international sorority. We are one of seven sororities that founded
the National Panhellenic Council and we are known for our philanthropies
and the maintenance of a camp for children. To raise money for
Campfire USA, we hold an annual Powder Puff tournament each fall
in which all of the sororities on campus participate. Gamma Phi
Beta also supports other causes by holding blood drives and partaking
in the Walk for Diabetes. Gamma Phi Beta is a sisterhood of diverse,
outgoing, intelligent, and personable women who strive to maintain
an ever-lasting bond of friendship by promoting involvement, leadership,
community service, connections, and social interaction. As sisters,
we strengthen our relationships by holding weekly sisterhoods
and hold three dances a semester. Our experiences in Gamma Phi
Beta have made our college experience that much more enjoyable
and rewarding. We look forward to meeting all of you and wish
you the best of luck during recruitment.

On
behalf of Kappa Alpha Theta, we would like to welcome you to sorority
life at John Carroll. Kappa Alpha Theta is an organization focused
on sisterhood, service, and scholarship. We participate in many
service-oriented events throughout the year to support the Kappa
Alpha Theta Foundation, the fraternity's philanthropic arm, as
well as CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Theta's international
philanthropy. Fundraising is done by holding our annual "Mr.
University" as well as "Charity Denim." Theta is
the first Greek-letter fraternity for women and exists to nurture
each member throughout her college and alumnae experience. This
is done through our tremendous bonds of sisterhood, including
weekly sisterhood activities and monthly socials. Our annual "Hoedown"
is held in the fall, and Theta's formal is traditionally in late
spring. However, sisterhood for Theta doesn't happen once a week
or at an annual formal; it's the daily and constant occurrences
that bring us together. The intellectual ambition of Theta is
the attainment of highest scholarship. As an organization we strive
for academic excellence, always working to help each other towards
improving. Now that you have an idea of what Theta is about, we
encourage you to take part in John Carroll's recruitment process!

On
behalf of the women of Kappa Delta Sorority, we would like to
welcome you to John Carroll and to sorority life. We would
also like to encourage you to "Go Greek" and take part
in Formal Recruitment. Being a part of a Greek organization is
one of the most rewarding experiences you can have while at JCU.
It gives you the opportunity to get involved on campus, meet new
people, and strengthen your communication and leadership skills
- and Kappa Delta is no exception. KD is a national organization
built on the strong principles of sisterhood, scholarship, philanthropy,
and social and community involvement. We offer the opportunity
to learn leadership and interpersonal skills that equip members
to assume positions of responsibility in the world. However, Kappa
Delta is also a great way to meet new people and gain the friendships
that will last you a lifetime. The women of Kappa Delta look forward
to meeting you during formal recruitment and sharing our bonds
of sisterhood with you!

Kappa
Kappa Gamma is a collegiate fraternity founded in 1870 and maintained
by 131 chapters in North America. The Eta Zeta chapter of Kappa
Kappa Gamma at John Carroll University is a closely united group
of women dedicated to promoting sisterhood and philanthropy within
the community. The women of Eta Zeta are dedicated to philanthropy
and display their commitment throughout the year through various
philanthropic events such as Kappa Klassic, a golf tournament
in the fall semester; Singled Out, a university-wide event held
in the spring; Kappa Kidney Kamp, a week-long retreat for children
suffering from kidney disease; and various others. In addition
to philanthropic events, the ladies of Eta Zeta are devoted to
their sisterhood and uphold this bond by offering several events
throughout the year. These events include social affairs such
as date parties, mixers, and an annual Sapphire Ball held in the
spring, as well as sisterhood events including TV nights and retreats.
The women of Eta Zeta would like to invite you to learn more about
the sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma during formal recruitment.
