| Graduate Programs
The Department of History's graduate programs are designed to serve the needs of a variety of students: those considering going on to Ph.D. programs in History; those who are interested primarily in adding to their historical knowledge; and those who are currently teaching secondary school or are interested in doing so. Students seeking an M. Ed. or initial licensure should consult the Department of Education.
Students who are able to devote full time to their program may apply for Graduate Assistantships, which cover the cost of tuition and provide a stipend. Licensed teachers are eligible for the John Carroll University Teacher Development Scholarship, which reduces tuition by one-third, as well as the departmental History-Education Scholarship which provides an additional one-third tuition scholarship. For further details, contact the Graduate School at (216) 397-4218.
Graduate classes are generally scheduled to meet once a week in the evenings. Most graduate classes are taught by full-time John Carroll History Department faculty. Students may also register for 400-level classes offered in the day.
