Masters Requirements

The Department Of History graduate programs are described in The Graduate Bulletin.   In brief, students may pursue course work leading to the Master of Arts in History in a variety of fields, including U.S., European, and World (chiefly Asian and Latin American).  Students considering applying for Ph.D. programs in History generally complete Plan A, which requires a thesis, reading knowledge of one modern foreign language, and 24 hours of course work.  Other students are  advised to complete M.A. requirements under Plan B, which requires 30 hours of course work and submission of a research essay (or, where appropriate, demonstration of the application of the student's fields of study to the secondary school classroom).  For further information, contact Professor David Robson, Director of the History Department Graduate Program, at (216) 397-4771 or robson@jcu.edu.
