Background Information The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association will proceed with a process for the re-accreditation of John Carroll University during the 2003-04 academic year. John Carroll was last visited by the North Central Association in l993-94 at which time the University received full accreditation. Achieving this accreditation indicates that John Carroll meets the standards and criteria established for institutions of higher education. It also attests to the high quality education that JCU students receive. As it prepares for the NCA visit, the University is currently involved in the stage of self-study. This process will produce a Self-Study report that will be submitted to the Higher Learning Commission/NCA the semester prior to its on-site visit. Rev. Edward Glynn, S.J. has appointed the Self-Study Steering Committee, which has in turn appointed sub-committees. These sub-committees incorporate representatives from throughout the University community including faculty, administration, students, staff, alumni and the Board of Trustees. Collectively, the sub-committees are compiling information that will be used to prepare for the writing of the report. As part of the self-study process, the sub-committees will examine, document, analyze and evaluate every area of the University in order to assess and document how well we are accomplishing our Mission. The steering committee will also prepare an overall plan and time-line for the self-study which will be submitted to the Higher-Learning Commission. As it conducts its research and data collection in preparation for the writing of the report, the Steering Committee welcomes suggestions and comments from the University community. Please forward any ideas or suggestions to Dr. Elizabeth Swenson. Created
