Social and Cultural Activities

The Honors Program sponsors two major social events each year.  The first is the Honors Wecome and Welcome Back which takes place each fall.  Usually this is held in the Reading room of the Dolan Science Center.  The event is held in September, allowing new and returning students to meet each other at the start fo the academic year. 

The second social event is more formal and occurs in March, at the start of Celebration of Scholarship week.  This is the Honors Banquet, a formal dinner to mark the coming of the end of the year.  It is also an occasion to pay tribute to those seniors who are graduating from the Honors Program. 

In addition to these two scheduled events, the Honors Program will sponsor additional events coordinated by the Student Honors Advisory Council.

Cleveland enjoys a rich cultural environment, with programs in music, dance, drama, opera, and other media.  The Honors Program encourages honors students to become more familiar with and take advantage of these cultural opportunities.  Thus, the Honors Program will subsidize the cost of cultural event tickets for honors students.

Students may acquire tickets to the Cleveland Symphony or Cleveland Play House through the Dean of Students Office.  The Dean of Students Office periodically offers tickets to specific events and should be consulted for times and tickets. 

Tickets to other cultural events will be reimbursed at the cost of the ticket or to a maximum of $35.00 per ticket (as of 2008), whichever is less.  After the event, the ticket stubs should be brought to the Honors Program secretary in the College of Arts & Sciences for reimbursement.  Should there be any question as to whether an event qualifies as "cultural" please consult with the Honors Program Office before you purchase your ticket.
