How do I map a drive?
To map to H: drive (user folder) and O: drive (department
folder):
Right-click on My Network Places. Choose "Map Network Drive,"
Select drive H: then type in "Path" or "Folder"

Am I responsible for backups?
Yes. Your profile is limited and you are responsible to backup
your files to CDs or some type of external device.
How do I look for information on my system?
Point to the My Computer icon located on the Desktop or in the
Start Menu, right click and select Properties from the pop-up menu.

How many telephone numbers are assigned to each room?
There is one telephone number per room.
What if I am using the phone and someone is trying to
call either my roommate or myself?
Each number is automatically equipped with the call waiting
feature.
What other features will I be able to use?
Besides call waiting, we provide the following features:
call hold
call forwarding
camp-on
distinctive ringing
last number redial
three-way calling
station speed dialing
Should I bring my own telephone, or will one be provided?
Rooms do not come equipped with a telephone, so it will be necessary
for each student to bring their own. Although each room has only
one number, a splitter can be used to accommodate more that one
telephone.
What type of phone should I bring?
Any phone that would work at home should work here as well.
We recommend that if you plan on using a cordless telephone,
you avoid using a 2.4 Ghz frequency phone. The reason being that
a 2.4 Ghz phone will not have good reception because of interference
with the new wireless LAN. Actually, the 900 Mhz phone can have
a longer range than the 2.4 Ghz, and far longer than the more
expensive 5.8 Ghz. Please note that we do not support Caller
ID on incoming calls to residence hall lines.
What advantages does VM offer that I may not have with
my own answering machine?
Besides privacy, here are some other reasons
to use VM:
- There is nothing to buy and you are free from repair or replacement
charges. No dropped or broken machine.
- VM is always turned on and it cannot be unplugged.
- VM can record messages from more than one caller at a time.
- You have the ability to access your messages from any telephone
on campus, or from anywhere in the world.
- You can change your greeting or pass code from any location.
- You can pause, resume play, rewind and fast forward through
a message, all at the push of a button.
