Problem:
Automatic Updates Validation Failure

Summary:
instructions on how to enable Automatic Updates and configure it to Download and Prompt for installation

Description:
Automatic Updates must be enabled and set to download and prompt for installation on all student computers in order to gain internet access.

You are currently being placed in a Temporary Role with limited network access to perform the necessary updates.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Why can't I take care of installing updates manually?

A: From our experience this issue was not being addressed by an adequate number of users. As a result, unsuspecting machines were often hijacked and used to propagate viruses and Denial of Service (DoS) attacks.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please complete the following to enable Automatic updates on your Windows XP machine:

1.  Click Start, (If you use the classic Start Menu, click Settings), then click Control Panel.

2.  Click Automatic Updates.

Tip: If the Automatic Updates is not visible, click Switch to Category View.

3.  You can choose between Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them or for greater security, select Automatic (the top option) and choosing a time when you would like the automatic installation to take place.

4.  Click Apply to confirm your setting. Return to the Network Login screen. Click the Next button at the bottom of the page. If you meet all other network requirements, you will be granted network access. If there are other requirements you do not meet, you will be given instructions on what you need to do.

5.  You will be notified when new updates are available from Microsoft. Please install them on a regular basis.
