Instructions for Control of Junk Mail
It is a good idea to check your Junk Mail folder on a regular basis. Even if you do not use the White List and Black List feature, messages that are suspected to be junk will be placed into this folder. E-mail mass mailings and listserv generated messages are examples of messages that may be marked as suspect and delivered to that folder.
Outlook Users: You can subscribe to your Junk Mail folder using the Tools > IMAP folders option in Outlook. The correct folder name to subscribe is INBOX.JunkMail. Please note that you can use Outlook to read and delete messages in the folder; however, to use the White List and Black List functionality you must use the web interface as described below.
Webmail Users:
- Select "Folders" in the left column.
- On next screen, select "Junk Mail" link under the Folder Name.

If there are messages in the Junk Mail Folder that you want to keep, click on the Subject Line to open the message.

Then select "This is Not Spam" and follow the directions to white list the address of the sender. Adding the sender to the White List will prevent future messages from this sender from going to your Junk Mail folder.
If you want to keep the address of this sender, click the "Add To Address Book" link.

Empty your Junk Mail folder by deleting the remaining messages.
To ensure that messages are rejected from specific users, enter their addresses on the Black List. This will prevent messages from this sender from being deposited in your mailbox.
- Select "Options" in the left column.
- On the next screen, select "Junk Mail Control" in the first row of hyperlinks.
- Then on the next page select "Black List" from the second row.
- To block an entire domain, enter the domain name (i.e. jcu.edu)
- To block a specific sender address, enter the sender's complete address in the box.
