All student accounts are being moved from ACADEMICS accounts to CAMPUS accounts. These are the accounts students use for on-campus computers, blackboard, VPN, etc.

Why is this change being implemented?

  • This change will simplify login for everyone on campus.
  • It is being implemented in order to keep accounts more secure. The Campus domain requires that all passwords be changed every 90 days, and also has more secure password requirements.

How does this change affect me?

As your accounts are moved into the Campus domain, all of your files will still be maintained in your Network Home Folder. On new classroom PCs running Windows 7, this folder will automatically appear as your "My Documents" folder. When saving documents on PCs, be sure to save to this folder only. Saving files anywhere else on the PC will cause them to be deleted when the PC restarts!

(Note: On PCs that still run XP, this folder will still appear as your H:\ drive)

What other systems are affected by this change?

  • BlackboardUntil you log onto a campus computer and change your password for the first time, you will not be able to login to Blackboard. Simply login to your account on a campus PC, change your password when prompted, and then you will be able to login to Blackboard. If you are not on campus to setup your new password, please contact the Help Desk at (216) 397-3005 for assistance.
  • "jcusec" Secure Wireless Network- After you have logged into a campus PC and changed your password, your laptop should prompt you to change your stored password for the "jcusec" network. Replace ACADEMICS\username with CAMPUS\username and your updated password. More information on connecting to the "jcusec" network is available at http://www.jcu.edu/is/Wireless.htm
  • VPN- After you have logged into a campus PC and changed your password, you will be able to use the VPN system. When logging into the VPN, replace your ACADEMICS\username with CAMPUS\username and your updated password. If you are not on campus to setup your new password, please contact the Help Desk at (216) 397-3005 for assistance. More information on the VPN system is available at http://www.jcu.edu/is/trouble/vpninstructions.htm
  • Outlook Exchange Accounts- Students with Exchange Accounts (generally only Graduate Assistants or Work Study Students who use Outlook Calendar Sharing with Faculty/Staff) will now need to login using CAMPUS\username instead of ACADEMICS. Until you log onto a campus computer and change your password for the first time, you will not be able to login to Exchange. Simply login to your account on a campus PC, change your password when prompted, and then you will be able to login to Exchange. If you are not on campus to setup your new password, please contact the Help Desk at (216) 397-3005 for assistance. More information about using Outlook is available at http://www.jcu.edu/is/trouble/setupoutlook.htm
