Are you thinking of extending your stay in Cleveland?
Perhaps, while in Cleveland for the 2006 JAA Conference, you intend to use the opportunity to visit local alums or donors. Maybe you have family in the area, or maybe you simply want to take a mini-vacation on the North Coast! Whatever the reason, we would like to do whatever we can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. If you will be arriving early, or staying late, here is some information that might be of interest to you:
HOUSING
The Hyatt Regency will honor your JAA rate of $119.00 per night from June 8-June 15th, should you care to extend your visit. Should you prefer other accomodations, John Carroll housing vendors include the Beachwood Mariott and Holiday Inn. These hotels are located east of Cleveland and their JCU rates run between $90.00-$120.00; they can be reached at 216.910.1100, or you can visit their website.
TRANSPORTATION
The Cleveland area is served by public transportation that includes bus and rapid routes. One of the quickest--and cheapest--ways to get to the Hyatt Regency from the airport is to hop on the Eastbound Redline rapid (#66, which departs about every 15 minutes) and take it to Tower City in downtown Cleveland. From there, you can easily walk to the Hyatt by heading toward Superior Avenue and turning right (see map here), or by taking the Eastbound #6 bus. Your travel time would be about 31 minutes and an express fare card costs $1.50.
In addition, RTA has a number of circular busses, including their new "trolleys," which are convenient and fun ways to explore the city. For more information on schedules and routes, call the RTA main office at 216-566-5100 or visit their web site at: http://www.gcrta.org/
WORSHIP SERVICES
The only scheduled mass being held at John Carroll University will be the opening mass at 5:00pm on Sunday, June 11th. However, St. John's Cathedral at E. 9th & Superior (1 1/2 blocks from the Hyatt) has mass on Saturday, June 10th at 4:30 pm and on Sunday, June 11th at 8 am, 10:30 am, 12:15 pm and 5:30 pm.
DINING
There are a number of fine and casual dining restaurants within walking distance of the Hyatt, not the least of which is the 1890 Lounge and Restaurant, located right inside the Hyatt (try their crab cakes!). Another option in the area would be Fat Fish Blue, which is offering a 10% discount to JAA participants. It is a very casual restaurant that serves New Orleans style cuisine and features live music Tuesday-Sunday nights.
More upscale options within walking distance of the Hyatt would include the Blue Point Grill, the Chop House, or the Metropolitan, all of which are excellent restaurants.
