Zhenping Shao
Visiting Instructor of Chinese
Zhenping Shao is John Carroll's second visiting instructor of Chinese within the Confucius Classroom program.* (She follows our first instructor, Cai Wei, who has since returned to China.) Before coming to JCU, she was a Chinese Professor in the Modern Language Department at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
Zhenping Shao has earned numerous teaching certificates for teaching both Chinese and English language. She is completing her graduate studies at the Faculty of Arts, Wuhan University, Hubei province in China, majoring in Chinese Teaching for Foreign Learners.
Regarding her internships and previous experience, from 2007 to 2008, she worked as an Intern Journalist at Xinhua Press and where she published numerous articles. In 2008, she taught at Wuhan Jiaotong Junior College as a Teacher of Chinese language and literature. Also from 2007 – 2008, she was involved with the Business Plan Competition in the "National Challenge Cup" and served as its Team Founder & Leader. Her group was selected as the first-class award winner out of over 1000 teams in Hubei province. They also won the National Silver Prize, and were selected out of all teams from Hong Kong, Macau and the Mainland.
Regarding her personal talents and interests, she has performed as the leader of the Chinese Dance Team for the Red Sun Art Troupe of Huanggang City. She was also invited to the Taiji Pavilion of Changchun Temple, in Wuhan, to host the graduation ceremony which included a Performance of Sado, and a Chinese zither solo, "Yuzhou Changwan." Zhenping Shao has also held numerous offices in school related organizations, and has been awarded many prizes in Chinese Dance competitions as well as many other Chinese cultural activities.
* The Confucius Classroom program is sponsored by Hanban, the National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language at the Chinese Ministry of Education to promote the study of Chinese language and culture around the world. Zhenping Shao comes to John Carroll through our affiliation with the University of Pittsburgh's Confucius Institute.
