October 1, Sunday: INSIDE World Music and The Beck Center for the Arts present: GYPSY FIRE: Gypsy and folk music from Hungary and Romania, THE CARPATHIAN FOLK QUARTET, Sándor Kuti, cimbalom ~ Attila Jakab, violin. László Mester, brácsa ~Robert Doór, bass; TIME: 7:00 PM: LOCATION: The Beck Center for the Arts, 10 minutes from downtown Cleveland: 17801 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, OH 44107; Call 216-521-2540 for Tickets. (Leading the group, Roma (Gypsy) virtuosi cimbalom player Sándor Kuti & violinist Attila Jakab collaborate to present a program of the best of folk and Gypsy music from Hungary & Romania. A product of the virtuoso traditions of the Budapest Gypsies, Sándor Kuti early on became interested in other music as well, including Balkan, Klezmer, & village traditions, all of which he incorporates into his music. Attila Jakab brings to the mix his years of experience as a primás (violinist band leader) playing for the Hungarian, Romanian & Roma (Gypsy) communities in his native Transylvania. Drawing from these rich sources, together they produce a varied and breathtaking concert. Sándor Kuti [cimbalom] From a famous dynasty of Gyspy musicians, cimbalom virtuoso Sándor Kuti is a remarkable representative of the younger generation of Roma musicians from Budapest. His instrument, the cimbalom, is the 125 stringed hammered dulcimer of Central and Eastern Europe. He became a member of the world renowned RAJKÓ Orchestra at the age of 14 and has played with virtually of the famous Hungarian primás violinists, including all of the Lakatos dynasty, Sándor Jároka, Károly Puka, and Ernõ Kállai Kiss. Sándor was also attracted to music of the Balkans and other areas of Eastern Europe. A well-rounded Gypsy musician true to his generation, hes toured frequently with the Kálmán Balogh Gypsy Cimbalom Band, played classical music with the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Klezmer music with Budowitz, and also tours with his own band in Europe, the Gypsy Brothers. Attila Jakab [violin] As much at home in Hungarian as Romanian folk music, Attila Jakab is one of Transylvanias most talented folk musicians. Growing up he learned from the authentic village musicians and spent his youth playing at weddings for the Hungarian, Romanian and Roma (Gypsy) communities. He is the lead violinist - primás - of the Maros Ensemble, the professional Hungarian folk group from Marosvásárhely [Tirgu Mures], Transylvania. Attila has toured in many countries around the world, including Western Europe, Japan and in North America. His superb technique and warm personality mesmerized American audiences during the 2004 tour of the Gypsy Spirit, Journey of the Roma show. László Mester [brácsa - folk-viola] is one of the most respected brácsa players on the Hungarian folk music scene. A classical trained violinist, he was attracted to folk-music at an early age and sought out and learned from the masters of traditional folk music. Subsequently he has played and toured with most of Hungary's leading folk groups, including the Ökrös Ensemble, with great success., Robert Doór [folk-bass] was initiated to music through jazz. However once he discovered folk music, it became his passion. He is considered one of the best bass players in Hungary folk music circles. Currently a member of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, Robert has played and toured with many most important folk musicians in Hungary including the world renowned Ökrös Ensemble.)

ÖSZTÖNDÍJAK MAGYARORSZÁGI TANULÁSRA:
Akkor tudjuk nyugati magyarságunk fennmaradását
elõsegíteni, ha a külföldön
történõ magyar nevelés
kiegészítéseképpen magyarországi
élményeket és tanulási lehetõségeket
biztosítunk fiataljainknak. Két magyarországi
tanulási lehetõséget lehet a Külföldi Magyar
Cserkészszövetségen (KMCsSz) keresztül
megpályázni: Középiskolai tanulmányi
év: Öt nagynevu egyházi középiskola
vállal egy évre magyar származású
vendégdiákokat: a szegedi piarista gimnázium, valamint
a nagykorösi, pápai, kecskeméti és szentendrei
református gimnáziumok. Mind az öt iskola szeretettel
fogad bármilyen felekezethez tartozó diákot. A
diák részt vesz az iskola rendes tanulási és
egyéb programjain. Az iskola kollégiumában vagy az iskola
által kiválasztott családnál lakik. Az iskola
egyik pedagógusa mentorként foglalkozik a programon
résztvevõ külföldi diákokkal. A diákokat
a KMCsSz magyarországi képviselõje fogadj a reptéren,
eljuttatja az iskolákba és kapcsolatot tart velük. A
magyarságörzõ célt figyelembe véve, az iskola
a tandíjat, lakást és étkezést
önköltségi ár alatt, évi US$500-ért
biztosítja. Balassi Bálint Intézet: A KMCsSz
kérésére a magyar Oktatási Minisztérium
ösztöndíjat ad magyar származású, 18.
életévüket betöltött fiataloknak, egy éves
tanfolyamon való részvételre a budapesti Balassi
Bálint Intézetben. Az ösztöndíj fedezi a
tandíjat, az Intézetben való lakást és
havi 16 000 forint juttatást. A tanfolyamon a diák fejleszti
magyar nyelvismeretét és megismerkedik a magyar
kultúrával (történelem, földrajz, néprajz,
muvészettörténet, stb.). Az Oktatási Minisztérium
és a Balassi Bálint Intézet
megbízásából a KMCsSz pályázat
révén választja ki és javasolja az
ösztöndíj nyerteseit. A tanfolyamon választható
egyes tantárgyakra egyetemi kreditpontok is kaphatók. A 2004.
