For those who may not know about the Transylvania flood disaster - On August 23rd the last of the six consecutive waves of flooding over a four-month period has caused death and widespread destruction. Hundreds of communities have been affected and large scale evacuations have taken place. Power outages are widespread and safe drinking water and basic necessities are in short supply. The historic Hungarian communities of Erdély have been hard hit. It is estimated that over 1,000 homes were completely destroyed covering villages in 7 feet of mud. While organizations such as the Red Cross and the United-Way-Hungary are there to help, much help is still needed, equipment and specific items for the re-building effort from water-pumps to hammers and nails are needed. Donations are being sought from corporations as well as individuals, from Hungarians world wide. The American Hungarian Foundation is sending a volunteer delegation from Washington DC to assess what specific needs there are. For now, the Hungarian American Foundation is a source of information as well as the means by which to give your support for the people devastated by this catastrophic disaster in the Székelyföld region in Transylvania. Scholarships for study abroad in Hungary, Deadline TBA:  CONTACT:  Hungarian Scouts in Exteris / Külföldi Magyar Cserkészszövetség;  2450 Route 2 ;  North, Newfoundland, NJ 07435, USA; telefon (973) 208-0450; E-mail Gabona@aol.com. Balassi Bálint Intézet:  A KMCsSz kérésére a magyar Oktatási Minisztérium ösztöndíjat ad magyar származású, 18. A tanfolyamon választható egyes tantárgyakra egyetemi kreditpontok is kaphatók. A 2004. szeptemberében kezdõdõ tanfolyamra 2004. január 30-ig kell a pályázatokat benyújtani.
