Dr. La Favre has a number of avocations including astronomy,
building musical instruments, and the acoustics of bar percussion
instruments (marimba, xylophone, vibes and glockenspiel). The
photo above is a 5-octave marimba that Dr. La Favre constructed
for his daughter, who is currently studying percussion performance
at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He has studied
the acoustics and tuning of the marimba and has an extensive
online publication covering tuning theory. |
