ANNUAL FRENCH CONTEST (2010)
Eligibility guidelines FOR COLLEGES-UNIVERSITIES:

CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION:

1)  The contest is open to FULL -TIME UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS from colleges and universities in Northeastern Ohio. Participants must be US citizens or permanent legal residents.

2)  A college or a university in this geographic area may present TWO candidates. These may be from the same category: A and A or B and B or from different categories, A and B.

3)  In addition, a professor-member of the Maison Française in good standing may present -- as a privilege of membership -- ONE of his/her own students -- in either category.

4) However, a total of NO MORE THAN FOUR candidates may come from any one institution.
N.B. For and explanation of categories and limits of eligibility, please refer to the  GENERAL ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES.

PRIZES
PAUL W. WURZBURGER PRIZE
[category A or B]   $1,000.00
First prize [categories A and B]                              $750.00
Second Prize [categories A and B]                          $600.00
Third Prize [categories A and B]                             $400.00
The full range of prizes will be awarded only if a sufficient number of students participate.

The contest consists of two parts:           1)  written               and          2)  oral
1)             A 500-700 word ESSAY: A topic chosen from several suggested:  Time Limit:  90                 Minutes
2)             A ten minute ORAL EXAMINATION: a completely impromptu conversation initiated by one                 of the judges to determine the contestant’s ability to handle French in an unanticipated                 situation.

Date:       Friday, March 26, 2010, beginning at 2:00 pm
Place:      John Carroll University, O’Malley Center room 101
Parking:   Free - use South Belvoir Blvd. Entrance. Stop at Guardhouse and request a Visitor’s               Permit.

Each winner of a prize and the professor who recommended the winner are expected to attend the awards banquet as invited guests of the Maison Française.

The presentation will be made at:
