ANNUAL FRENCH CONTEST (2010)
Eligibility guidelines for HIGH SCHOOLS & Conditions for Participation:

The best student in FRENCH IV or FRENCH V of any member of the Maison Française and/or any high school in Cuyahoga County or the areas immediately surrounding Cuyahoga County is eligible to participate. Levels are to be interpreted according to AATF guidelines. Students from French speaking families and foreign exchange students are not eligible. Any student who has won first prize in one of our previous contests is also ineligible. Questions of eligibility must be resolved before the contest. (Please refer to the GENERAL ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES.)

N.B.  Each School in or very near CUYAHOGA COUNTY is entitled to ONE student. Each teacher-member of the Maison is also entitled to ONE.

Categories:             
        Category A.    Students presently enrolled in level IV
        Category B.    a)  Student presently enrolled in Level V
                            b)  Students presently enrolled in Levels IV who have spent more than six                                  weeks in France or a Francophone country.

Dates:  Applications must be in our hands no later than Monday, March 15, 2010.
Examination:  Saturday, March 20, 2010                   Starts at 9 am, by appt.

In the evenings on Monday and Tuesday before the contest, applicants will be contacted via telephone to set an appointment time for the examination. Calls are made in the order in which applications are received. Any applicant not contacted by Tuesday evening, please call Dr. Martha Pereszlenyi-Pinter by phone, or contact via e-mail - see below.

Place:  John Carroll University, O’Malley Center room 132
Parking:  Free - use South Belvoir Blvd. Entrance. Stop at Guardhouse and request a Visitor’s Permit.

Subject: The student will prepare in advance a 2-3 minute oral presentation on any topic of interest to him or her (NO NOTES ALLOWED). The judges will then ask questions and engage the student in impromptu conversation for the remainder of the time – approx. 10 minutes.

Each winner of a prize and the professor who recommended the winner are expected to attend the awards banquet as invited guests of the Maison Française. The presentation will be made at:
