Friends at Work in the Garden

Several Friends have "adopted" the Kelly Reading Garden, much like some people have supported the state's "Adopt a Highway" program. New plants have been added on a regular basis and have increased the beauty of our three-season garden. The new plants have come from the personal gardens of Friends. If you would like to donate a plant, please contact Connie Lasota at (216) 397-4231. Proceeds from the ongoing book sale will be spent to add to our spring bulb collection.

Friends Help Purchase Rare Book

Recently, the library purchased a rare book called the LIFE OF IGNATIUS LOYOLA by Pedro de Ribadeneyra. The book was published in Antwerp by Christopher Plantin in 1587.

In this life of St. Ignatius, Ribadeneyra writes as an eye-witness, supporting his story by documents. The book is an important addition to the library's collections not only because it deals with a Jesuit subject, but also because it was published by one of the more important printers of the Renaissance.

The book can be seen in the Special Collections department of the library. It was purchased with proceeds from the Friends book sale.
