Announcing MT 167 - The Mathematics of Change and Chance
Beginning with Fall, 2008, the course required for students majoring in the Boler School of Business will be MT 167, The Mathematics of Change and Chance. This course blends topics in calculus with topics in discrete and continuous probabilty, and makes extensive use of computers.
Topics include:
Basic Concepts: Functions, graphs, exponential growth
Discrete Probability: Experiments, sample spaces, random variables, mean and variance, binomial distributions
Calculus: Rates of change, the derivative, optimization concepts, the definite integral, net change, improper integrals
Continuous Probability: Continuous random variables, probability density functions, exponential and normal distributions, mean and variance, the Central Limit Theorem
Statistics: The sampling distribution of the sample mean,
estimating a mean with confidence intervals |
