1) Land of Lincoln (1)
Mary Grove’s Plantation in the Land of Lincoln shows an example of the South in the 1860’s. It shows the way slaves lived and how they worked. It also has many things you are able to click on that will show you history and facts on the period of slavery in the United States.
2) Land of Lincoln (2)
This section of Second Life is just a walk away from the first stop. Its main focus is the Emancipation Proclamation. This document was something Abraham Lincoln wrote in order to end slavery altogether. It was one of, if not the biggest, happening in African American history. They were finally, technically, free. However, racism continued through the years.
3) Virtual Harlem
This slurl offers an array of books that focus on Harlem. It has different authors and themes, but all tie back to the rich African American history that Harlem has. It is important to the tour because it alone provides so much history just in the books that tell all different types of stories that a textbook could not do justice to.
4) Native American Community
This site talks about the American Indians and their struggles through the times of the pilgrimage over to the new land from the European Americans. It points out that racism does not only apply to African Americans, but all who do not resemble European Americans.
5) African American Experience Museum
The museum of the African American experience is a good site for the issue of racism. It shows the pictures and stories of many African Americans that had some significance in society. Examples of people in the museum are Aretha Franklin, James Brown, and Barack Obama. It has many historical pictures of those who influenced the freedom of slaves and abolishment of racism, such as John Brown, Fredrick Douglas, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
5) African American Presidency
This stop in the tour is extremely historical. It focuses on current President Barack Obama. It is a site for supporters to come together and promote this man enough to help him win the presidency, which he did. By having this happen, it was a monumental step in the battle against racism. The people that were once enslaved because of skin color now have one of their own running our nation. He was seen as so important that in Second Life, there are 57 sites for Obama and only 7 for McCain.
