Graphs of Quadratic Equations

The graph of a typical quadratic equation is shown below.  You can manipulate the mathematics by changing the values of a, h and k, and then observing the changes in the graph.

Be sure to change just one constant at a time, so you can observe how that one change affects the graph.  And be sure to try both positive and negative values for each of the constants.

To change the value of one of the constants:

  1. Click on the box with the dot in it, in front of the definition of the constant that you want to change.
  2. Press the right arrow cursor key.  (This should move the cursor to the end of that line.)
  3. Use the Backspace key to delete the current value, and then type a new value.
The graph should change automatically.

If the mathematics becomes totally messed up, just click the RELOAD button on your browser.

When you have finished your work with this page, go to the page on graphing the absolute value function.
