Text: A Discrete Transitiion to Advanced Mathematics, by Richmond & Richmond (American Mathematical Society)
Course Content: MT 271 serves as a transition from relatively concrete mathematics courses, such as calculus, to the more advanced and abstract courses in the mathematics major. Normally taken by math majors and minors in the spring of the sophomore year, MT 271 is a prerequisite for most 300 and 400 level mathematics courses.
Topics covered include sets and logic, proof techniques, induction, functions and relations, elementary number theory, matrix operations, counting principles and elementary graph theory.
