Swarm Video Clips
In this experiment, participants were asked to first randomize, then form groups based on the shape on the front of their T-shirts. Once completed, they were instructed to re-group based on the color of their T-shirts.
The T-shirts are numbered from 1 to 100. In this clip, participants were asked to line up in numerical order. No starting point or ending point was provided. As can be seen in the video, there was also no direction regarding ascending or descending order.
Lining up in Numerical Order a Second Time with the Same Group
The second running of this experiment is quite interesting. Many participants solved the problem from scratch a second time. However, others simply went to their final location in the previous solution. This made it more difficult to overcome incompatible sub-solutions that arose.
Twenty participants were given colored hats that matched the 10 colors of the T-shirts. There were two hats of each color. Everyone was given the same set of instructions - follow someone whose hat matches the color of your shirt. The swarm formed some unexpected structures.
