African American Alliance
The African American Alliance (AAA) is a union of goal-oriented individuals who have come together to promote a set of common interests. AAA strives to bring cultural awareness to John Carroll University through community based programming that notices our differences while embracing our similarities. We also serve as a support group for all students adapting to a new college atmosphere by promoting the interaction of students from all backgrounds. Our most important focus is building the community around us and building the bonds between each other through community service projects that help us to truly understand the meaning of “men and women for others.” AAA welcomes all new students to join our organization and help us truly fulfill our mission of bringing cultural awareness to our campus. Please contact Desmarie Carter at dcarter07@jcu.edu for more information.
Asian Cultural Organization
The purpose of the Asian Cultural Organization (ACO) is to bring a taste of Asian cultures to the John Carroll University campus. ACO serves to bring Asian American students and those interested in Asian culture together through various social, cultural and awareness programs. Our events draw university attention to the needs and issues facing the Asian American community. We are open to all students who wish to learn more about Asian cultures, lifestyles and interactions. Please contact Clinton Kertcher at kertch04@yahoo.com for more information.
Latin American Student Association
The primary purpose of Latin American Student Association (LASA) is to be an official group that provides an opportunity for students of Latin American heritage as well as those interested in Latin American culture to meet on a regular basis, organize activities of various sorts, and increase both the number of Latino/a students on campus and the awareness of our presence and value to the university at large. We want YOU as a member of LASA to come forward with ideas, strength, pride, motivation and conviction to make the JCU campus aware of our culture. Soon the Latino community will be the largest minority in the country. This brings great power and responsibility for us, making it necessary to show what the Latino community is capable of doing. We are a thriving force and want YOU to participate in this great enterprise. Please contact Cynthia Espinal at cespinal10@jcu.edu for more information.
John Carroll Allies seeks to offer support to students that are interested in issues that concern gays, lesbians, and bisexuals. Our mission is to plan speakers, trips, and activities that will promote a better understanding of the gay, lesbian, and bisexual population within the teachings and doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church. Furthermore, we hope to promote Christian teachings by advocating the importance of acceptance, love, and tolerance of all people. Please contact Kate Sedon at ksedon08@jcu.edu for more information.
Middle Eastern Student Association
The aim of the Middle Eastern Student Association is to bring cultural and historic awareness to the public in regards to the Middle East and its relations with other countries, be it Muslim or Christian, Catholic, Orthodox, Jewish or any other religious belief. The Middle East is a sector of the world that is enriched with history, culture and spirituality, yet has been an area misunderstood as well. Our goal as an organization, a multicultural one that is, is to divorce ourselves from differences. Our aim is to celebrate diversity and embrace each other’s culture, language, history and heritage. Our desire is to heighten the awareness of others and call for a unified and more accepting community. We want to educate people about the beauty of this very intriguing and imperative region. Please contact Bernadette Naoum at bnaoum07@jcu.edu for more information.
The Gospel Choir has performed for a variety of audiences both on campus and off campus including the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The Gospel Choir welcomes all students to join their organization. Please contact Beth Wall at bwall08@jcu.edu for more information.
