Since 1990 the College
of Arts & Sciences has awarded the Lucrezia Culicchia Award
for Teaching Excellence, which was created by the late Tony Culicchia
'64 in honor of his mother. Besides recognizing an outstanding faculty
member such as this year's recipient, Mariana Ortega PhD,
the ceremony spotlights one of John Carroll's fundamental strengths
-- the classroom experience.
Introducing Dr. Ortega, Associate Professor of Philosophy, was the
2004 winner, Margaret (Peggy) Finucane PhD, who highlighted the
endorsements sent in by students, current and former. For example,
one wrote of the comments heard by other students leaving an Ortega
class:
"Wow! I never thought of philosophy like that" ... "That
was such a great class" ... "I didn't look at my watch
once!" |
