Students learn to 'cultivate community' -- literally
Some of the team members pose in the garden shortly after planting was completed. More than 200 students, faculty and others from the JCU community ignored the weather one Saturday last Spring (Apr 23) to work on transforming a vacant lot (top left) in Cleveland's Hough neighborhood into a community garden (at left). The project was the capstone for Margaret Finucane's Communications class, "Cultivating Community," which focused on the historical, social, political and economic issues facing residents of the city. The class partnered with the Famicos Foundation, a US Housing and Urban Development Center, on the project.
