Pajama party encourages students to 'wake up' to their careers

Career Services Advisor Julie Hills faced a challenge: How to get students thinking about careers early in their college experience.

Her solution, naturally, was a pajama party -- to which she and her colleagues invited sophomores on Wednesday night (Jan 26). As a packed LSC room proved (see above), it was wildly successful.

First Hills teamed up with fellow Advisor Elizabeth Hlucky '99 (at right) in a skit that set the stage for the evening. Then she and other CS staffers, including Career Counselor Cynthia Marco (below left), started the "large group activity." Whoever caught the beach ball was to give their major and then think of possible careers it could prepare them for. After that came breakfast, sponsored by employers whose representatives engaged the students in discussions about career goals, skills analysis, resume writing, job interviews and networking. The reps included JCU graduates like Beth Grzybowski '03 (below right). Click on link below at far right for more coverage.
