| View of Benedict XVI from a Vatican 'insider' |
"Still an Insider at the Vatican & Now with All Things Catholic."
That was the title of a lecture last Thursday (Sept 14) by John Allen, Jr., Vatican
correspondent for The National Catholic Reporter and analyst for National Public
Radio, CNN and ABC. Making his fourth appearance at John Carroll, Allen once
again proved he is, indeed, a Vatican insider, in his prepared remarks as well
as his responses to audience questions.
One of the questions (#5 below) dealt with the breaking news
of the day -- a reference by Pope Benedict XVI to Islam that offended Muslims
worldwide.
The Donahue Auditorium presentation was sponsored by The Cardinal Suenens Center and the Division of Student Affairs. Earlier in the day Allen spoke to a lunchtime audience about his recently published Opus Dei, the first serious journalistic investigation into the highly secretive and controversial organization. Previous books include, The Rise of Benedict XVI, All the Pope’s Men, and Conclave. |
