systems in organizations. You will learn about different types
of systems and the roles they play including office automation,
transaction processing, management reporting, decision support, and
artificial intelligence. The course will provide hands-on
experience with database management software, electronic spreadsheets,
web development packages, and large scale integrated systems including
SAP. Students will be introduced to the systems development
process and learn about the challenges faced by developers and
development teams. Technological, social, and ethical Issues
related to management and use of information systems will be
discussed.
This course will be delivered "on-line" using the Blackboard Course
Management system. Students will have access to all course
materials via the internet, and will be required to participate in
discussion forums on a regular basis. These discussions are not
"chat" sessions, but asynchronous discussions that provide students
with the ability to participate at different times based upon their
schedules. These forums support group work and file exchange,
and students should plan on participating several times per week
during the course. Students will have access to audio and video
resources (provided over the internet), and access to software
required for this course will be available through the JCU VPN.
Students will be able to log into the JCU applications server and use
the required software packages without charge.
Grading will be based on online quizzes, assignments/projects,
participation in the discussion forums, and a final paper on a subject
related to information systems management. If you have any
