REGISTRATION FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If you have a question not answered here, please contact the Office of Orientation at orientation@jcu.edu or by calling 216-397-1983.

Q: Where is my transition packet?
A: Once a student has submitted their enrollment deposit and enrollment reservation form, a transition packet is mailed to the student’s permanent address.  This packet contains specific instructions and information about how to register online for an orientation session.  Please allow a week after you have paid your deposit to receive your packet.  If you have not received the packet after that time please contact the Office of Admission at 216.397.4645.
   
Q: What is my e-mail address and password?  My e-mail password does not work. 
A: The transition packet contains a personalized wallet-sized card, glued on the inside back cover page of the packet. This card includes your email address and initial password (unless you have logged into your JCU G-mail account and changed your password). (Note: the initial JCU G-mail password is typically set to the student’s Banner ID.)  Once a student submits their enrollment deposit, a packet, with the personalized card enclosed, is mailed out the next day to the student’s permanent address.  If you have received your transition packet, but have not received your card with it, please contact the Office of Admission at 216.397.4645.  *Note:  Changing your Banner PIN does not change your email password. 
   
Q: What are my Banner User ID and PIN, and/or my Blackboard User ID and password, and where do I find them?
A: Your Banner User ID and PIN will allow you to enter the Secure Area of BannerWeb where you will register for an orientation session and can access your own financial information.  Once you have registered for classes, you will be able to view your class schedule and eventually see your grades and other academic information.  Your Blackboard User ID and Password will allow you to take your required Foreign Language Placement Exam. You will find a wallet-sized card from the Office of Admission enclosed with your packet, glued onto the inside back cover page. Keep the card in a safe, secure place because it has information which will provide access to your confidential data.  (Note: the initial Blackboard Password is typically set to the student’s Banner ID.) Please contact the Office of Admission at 216-397-4645 if you do not find your card in your packet.
   
Q: My Banner User ID does not work.
A: The Banner User ID should appear like this:  B00012345 (using zeros not the letter O).  The Banner PIN is case sensitive and has at least eight characters (letters and numbers).  Make sure that you can go to the “Enter Secure Area” page from the www.jcu.edu/bannerweb link in order to enter your Banner ID.  If you cannot do this please contact the Computer Help Desk at 216.397.3004. If you can get this far but your Banner ID and/or PIN does not seem to be working for you call the Registrar’s Office at 216.397.1659.
   
Q: How do I register for orientation?
A: The transition packet contains detailed instructions on how to register online for an orientation session.  If you have not received a packet please, contact the Office of Admission at 216.397.4645.  You can also check the orientation website for registration instructions at http://www.jcu.edu/orientation/
   
Q: Can I just register for orientation over the phone?
A: Registration for orientation is simple and quick online.  Please follow the instructions in the transition packet on how to register for orientation.  You can also check the orientation website for registration instructions at http://www.jcu.edu/orientation/
   
Q: How do I get onto the website?
A: The transition packet contains instructions on how to get into the website to register for orientation.  You can also check the orientation website for registration instructions at http://www.jcu.edu/orientation/  If you are having difficulty logging on try going to a different computer (home, library, etc) as some employers block certain websites.  Also, make sure you get to the “Enter Secure Area” page from www.jcu.edu/bannerweb in order to enter your banner ID.  If you cannot do this, please contact the Computer Help Desk at 216.397.3004.
   
Q: I get to the initial Blackboard page (http://blackboard.jcu.edu), but I don’t know how to get to my language placement exam from there, or I don’t see the correct language placement exam which I am expecting to see?

The text from the initial Blackboard page is pasted below:

  • Click on the User Login button to access the current Blackboard system using your JCU username and password.
  • Click here to access all Summer 2011 courses including Language Placement Tests for new students on the new Blackboard 9.1 system.
  • Please call the Help Desk at 216-397-3005 if you have questions or need assistance.
As shown here, you must click on the correct link labeled “Summer 2011 courses including Language Placement Tests …” to access your Language Placement Exam, which is set-up as a “course” in Blackboard. Once you click that correct link, you will log-in with your blackboard username and password (as shown on your card). Once you are logged into Blackboard, you should see that you are enrolled in the Language Placement Exam for the correct Foreign Language (French, German, Italian, Latin, or Spanish). If the foreign language you are expecting is not there once you are logged in correctly, see above, contact the Office of Admission at 216.397.4645. (reference SOAHSCH form)
