Pandemic Flu Committee (PFC)
The primary function for the Pandemic Flu Committee is to monitor the potential for a national pandemic outbreak and provide regular updates to the President’s Leadership Team. In the event that the virus has spread to Ohio or neighboring states, the Pandemic Flu Committee may recommend to the Leadership Team to close the University as a means to prevent the further spread of a pandemic influenza.

Facilities Department
The primary function for the Facilities Department is to maintain water, heat and electrical services to all buildings on campus and clean and remove waste from campus. Facilities staff will also respond to work orders on a priority basis and in winter months, will provide for snow removal to gain access to buildings.

Public Affairs/Media Relations
The primary function for the Public Affairs/Media Relations department is to develop an effective plan for communication and promotion of messages relating to a pandemic outbreak. The department will be responsible for writing and recording pandemic influenza bulletins and updates for the JCU emergency preparedness website and JCU Information Line.

Residence Life
The primary function for the Office of Residence Life is to coordinate the evacuation of students from the residence halls. Residence Life staff will provide instructions for students on how to prepare their rooms for departure. The Office of Residence Life also will identify an area of the residence halls to house students who may become ill and are unable to travel.

Student Health Services
The primary function for the Student Health Center is to maintain universal precautions to prevent the spread of the flu, identify suspected flu patients and quarantine them, and obtain adequate staffing for the management of students who may become ill.

Food Services
The primary function for JCU Dining is to develop a plan for alternative dining options for students and staff. In the event of a university closure, meals will not be provided through the dining hall. In the event of an extended campus closure, JCU dining would be responsible for providing box meals for students and employees who remain on campus.

Campus Safety Services (CSS) & Transportation
The primary function for Campus Safety Services is to secure buildings that have been designated for closure and to implement any recommendations from the Ohio Department of Health.

Environmental Safety
The primary function for the Environmental Safety Office is to distribute N-95 respirators and to provide respiratory training to essential personnel. This office is also responsible for developing a plan for the disposal of infectious waste.

Office of Academic Vice President
The primary function for the Office of the Academic Vice President is to develop a policy for the suspension of classes due to a Pandemic outbreak. The office is also responsible for monitoring students in foreign and domestic travel programs.
