Major Requirements for Philosophy Degree

Majors in philosophy take twelve philosophy courses (nine courses beyond the core requirements):

  1. PL 101: Introduction to Philosophy.
  2. Two seminars (PL 450), or one seminar and a senior thesis (PL 495).
  3. Nine additional courses with at least four on the 200 level and at least four on the 300 level.

Majors at Borromeo take twelve philosophy courses: PL 101, 240, 250, 307, 310, 395, 396, 425; two courses chosen from PL 210, 220, 260, 270, 275; and PL 301 or 360. Either one seminar (PL 450) or a comprehensive exam or a senior thesis (PL 495); one elective for students opting for the comprehensive exam.
