Section G of our course deals with "reformed epistemology." This view claims that it's rational to accept the existence of God as a "properly basic belief" -- one that needs no argument on its behalf."Epistemology" means "theory of knowledge." "Reformed epistemology" refers to an approach to religious knowledge that is strong in the Calvinist tradition. The approach was started by John Calvin (an important figure in the Protestant Reformation) and is pursued with great vigor today by Alvin Plantinga (who is a Calvinist).
We'll begin with a short introduction to reformed epistemology from our main textbook (from pages 327-8 of Philosophy of Religion: Selected Readings (second edition), edited by Peterson, Hasker, Reichenbach, and Basinger).
