Raymond Moody's 1975 book LIFE AFTER LIFE started much of the current interest in near-death experiences.
Raymond Moody's 1975 book LIFE AFTER LIFE started much of the current interest in near-death experiences.
Moody (an MD who also has PhDs in psychology and philosophy) interviewed 150 patients who experienced the beginning stages of death (due to causes like a severe heart attack). The patients gave fairly similar stories -- involving elements like floating weightlessly and encountering a loving supernatural "being of light."
Moody's book met with great initial skepticism. However, further research has confirmed his findings and debunkers have been unable to explain away the stories.
