Professor Fritsch received his Ph.D. in physics from The Catholic University of America in 1968, where he worked on electrolytic solutions using ultrasonic and light scattering techniques. He joined the faculty at John Carroll University as an assistant professor in 1967.
He was promoted to associate professor in 1972 and to professor in 1977. He was a visiting professor in Elektrotechnik at the University of the Saarland in Saarbruecken, Germany, in 1979-80.
He was chairman of the department from 1989-1997. Dr Fritsch received the Distinguished Faculty Award for is extraordinary contribution to John Carroll University in 1999. His current research is in single-bubble sonoluminescence phenomena. Previous research was in the area of digital optical sensor design for aircraft propulsion control.
