Dr. Jen Ziemke, New
International Relations Professor,
Joins Political Science Department as a
Tenure-Track Faculty
Member in Fall 2008!
Dr. Jen Ziemke, a political science doctoral student at the University of Wisconsin, Madison with specializations in African politics, international human rights and wartime dynamics will join the department of Political Science in Fall 2008. Dr. Ziemke is the recipient of the University of Wisconsin-Madison's 2007-2008 Innovation in Teaching Award. In addition to two courses on International Relations, Dr. Ziemke will teach a Special Topics course this fall on African Politics. Join us in welcoming Professor Ziemke to Cleveland in Fall 2008!

Cleveland Attorney and JCU Alumna Jennifer Burke
Joins Political Science Department as Adjunct
Faculty in Fall 2008!
Attorney Jennifer Burke will join the Department of Political Science in Fall 2008 as an adjunct faculty member. She will teach the PO 314-1 course on Constitutional Politics. Ms. Burke litigated for five years at the Columbus office of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP, and two years at the Cleveland office of Thompson Hine, LLP. Her practice includes complex commercial, employment, accounting, fiduciary, land use and criminal matters in federal and state courts. She is currently a visiting intern in the chambers of the Honorable W. Keith Watkins, United States District Court Judge, Middle District of Alabama, where she is gaining insights into the judicial process. Ms. Burke is a 2001 graduate of Boston College Law School, where she was an editor on the Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review; an intern in the Boston District Office of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission; and the head of recruitment and training for the Boston Shelter Legal Services Foundation, an organization that provides free legal services to the working poor and homeless. Ms. Burke earned her B.A in 1996 from JCU, where she majored in History and Philosophy.

The department of Political Science at John Carroll University presents the inaugural lecture of the Donald Suopis Memorial Lecture Series. The guest speaker is Mr. John Cranley, who graduated from JCU in 1996 with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy. Mr. Cranley earned his law degree from Harvard, and a masters degree in theology from the Harvard Divinity School. He has twice run for Congress from the Cincinnati area, and has served as a Councilmember since 2001.
This event will be held on Saturday, October 25 th, at 1:00 p.m., at the Marinello Little Theatre – D.J. Lombardo Student Center. The title of Mr. Cranley’s presentation is, “Reflections on Public Service.” The event is free and open to the public.

JCU Political Science Department Sends Student Reps to the 2008 Republican and Democratic National Conventions!
Senior Political Science major Julie Bastianini will represent JCU at the August Democratic National Convention to be held August 25-28, 2008, at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
Senior Political Science major James Osinsky will represent JCU at the Republican National Convention to be held at the Xcel Energy Center in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota September 1 to September 4, 2008.
