Overview of the Undergraduate Political Science Program of Studies
Political Science is a science in that it uses both humanistic and scientific perspectives to examine and analyze its subjects. It is a social science discipline in the tradition of liberal arts and sciences.
Political Science is political because its subject matter includes not only politics, but the political structures of government, the political behavior of individuals, and the political theories that seek to explain social phenomenon.
The study of political science at John Carroll University begins by equipping majors with a solid understanding of the basic fields of the discipline, and a working knowledge of political theories and research methods.
Beyond this, it also teaches students to think critically and communicate effectively. It challenges them to analyze problems through multiple points of view, and it encourages them to develop a global perspective of citizenship.
Finally ,through the experiential learning component emphasized in the program, it provides students of political science with unparalleled opportunities for professional training and personal growth.
