Physicians are healthcare professionals who are trained to diagnose and treat specific conditions, diseases, and injuries. There are numerous types of physicians each with training and expertise in a specific area. Among the various types of physicians the medical doctors (allopathic and osteopathic) are the largest group and they specialize in specific areas including internal medicine, family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, geriatrics, cardiology, general surgery, and the like. Other types of physicians include dentists, optometrists, podiatrists, veterinarians, and chiropractors.
