| Former Blue Streaks gridder Bryan Fialkowski '01 (with beard) and high school-mate Kermit Cook pose triumphantly in the Atlantic off Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, on Sunday (September 2) having biked exactly 3,624.8 miles cross country in 39 travel days to raise funds for educational programs at their Linsly, W. Virginia, alma mater. The night before the pair reflected on their journey alongside their campfire. See excerpts of Fialkowski's final journal entry. | |

Bryan Fialkowski '01 "I have thought about this night for a long time. I didn't know what to expect. I mean I know it is a huge night, but it feels the same as the other nights... We plugged on a few extra miles tonight to be closer to completion tomorrow. Here we are -- Labor Day weekend and about 75 miles to the Atlantic Ocean. It's hard to comprehend. One more day... It is like being a Senior on the football team (at John Carroll University) on the last week -- everything you do is your last time. Last camphouse shower -- I could go on forever. We are in Delaware and the time is here. Can you believe it? -- I can't. It has been a haul, and now we are here. The time has come to complete this wonderful and crazy journey. It does not seem real... The trip is information overload. You need some time to let stuff sink in. I know it will, but right now it just seems like another night. It is not, though. It is the last night." Return to top of page |
